Ordtak.net
This was my first attempt to make money on the internet. Based on the idea that people would search for proverbs and quotes on Google (or Kvasir, HotBot, or AltaVista), I collected them and displayed lots of advertisements.
Services like Tradedoubler and various affiliate links were used. I also enthusiastically clicked on the ads myself. The website was hosted by Domeneshop, and the design was originally built with tables, but was converted to CSS in the autumn of 2004.
I remember the website looking quite good, much better than the screenshot I’ve managed to dig up now.
Before I stopped renewing the domain in 2007, the site was pure HTML and CSS, but it also had a visitor counter written in PHP to show the number of visitors. It ran on a Linux machine stored in a dresser at home, probably because PHP support cost extra at Domeneshop.
I recently bought back the original domain name and restored the site to its early state, complete with layouts built entirely from tables and images.
There are only four lines of CSS, used purely for the hover effect on links in the navigation menu. CSS2 had only recently been introduced in 1998, so this felt quite new and impressive at the time.
